Across The Sheets

Since making his major-label debut in 2017, California singer-songwriter Brett Young has established himself as one of country’s more chameleonic voices, eschewing the bro-country so popular at the time in favor of a poppier, often more nostalgic flavor of the genre. On this fourth full-length record, he once again showcases his versatility as a performer and a songwriter, both of which have grown stronger with time. Opener “Dance With You,” a track tailor-made for wedding season, is one of Young’s bigger hits to date, thanks to its sweet and relatable message. “Back to Jesus” offers a vulnerable and tenderhearted look at the intersection of faith and love, with an especially emotive vocal from the singer. In a more unexpected move, Young revisits his 2017 track “You Ain’t Here to Kiss Me,” updating a longtime fan favorite to fit his current vision. And he caps off the project with a spirited cover of Tim McGraw’s “Don’t Take the Girl,” tipping his hat to another country star who forged his own sonic path.
